Had to share this picture with all of you! I always have some creative kiddos that can't help themselves but to exhibit their creativity in a minute or two of down time! This rocket was made with notebook paper...and a very creative boy's hands:)

ART QUEST 2009

I wanted to share a few pictures of Art Quest 2009 (the annual art show and convention!!) Our winners this year were Sarah Cady in Sculpture, Nick Sanders and Katie Watson in Tempera, Kenda Barnes in Colored Pencil, and Kayla Phillips in Mixed Media! I am so proud of all my kids!

Art 2 - Oil Pastel Still Life

I always try to wait until nearly the end of the year to do Oil Pastels because it makes such a mess typically, but, because my Art 2 group is so awesome and dependable this year, I had NO mess!! Its an Art Room MIRACLE!! The individual still-lifes turned out Fabulous!! Here are a few!

Art 1 - Recycled Textbooks

We used old textbooks to create new artwork! We glued, painted and then decorated the books by beginning with a famous saying or quote and then illustrated them in our own unique way..here are just a few...

ART 1 -Recycled robots

One of my 6th grade classes had the challenge of creating robots out of household trash...(Clean trash!!) Here are some of the proud teams and their robotic creations!! BTW...Abi and Tori are doing "The Robot" dance for their picture...hehe!

Art 3 Fleur de lis paintings

Art 3 boys did mixed media paintings with different versions of the fleur de lis. They turned out very interesting...Here's a class shot with the paintings...

Art 2 Pointillism

This is a project that a teacher from another local school did and her children did FABULOUS work on it! So, I decided to try it with the kiddos here...and it was..successful! :) We used Sharpies to draw out the shadows of bottles on a still life using only dots, NO LINES. Beautiful work!

Here are just a few of the MANY great ones!

Madeline Kent

(we already matted hers for the upcoming art show)

Names are under each work! Great job all of you!!

Art 1 Fish Sculptures

6th graders have been busy making giant fish sculptures in teams that are decorating the halls here at Good Hope. Sculpture is sometimes hard for teachers to integrate into the classroom without massive amounts of space and without powertools, wood, metal, etc. So, I decided to make 3 dimensional paper sculptures that we could display rather than store (My storage space is getting seriously limited)! Some students went with characters from movies (Nemo!) and others chose to do anatomically accurate fish, whereas others created their own mythical fish (We actually have a Llamafish!) Teachers and Students are all excited about the colorful displays "swimming" through the hallways:) Here are a few pictures of just some of the fish. I'll take more pics to post soon!

Limo Lunch Trip

My dear students that sold 25 or more on the annual Art Fundraiser were treated to lunch at Johnny's Pizza. They traveled by LIMO (woohoo!) and enjoyed pizza, breadsticks and cinnamon sticks. The boys also got to watch the big screen on ESPN. Thank you for all your support!

Art 2 Masks

Here are noteworthy Art 2 (7th & 8th graders) Masks!
" Miss Music"

"Ima Star"

"KISS"

Art 1 & 2 Masks

I always try to do the mask project around Mardi Gras. I always do this with 6th graders (Art 1), but this year my Art 2 students BEGGED to do them again, so I gave in. I figure if its something that they REALLY want to do, they will do good at it...and they did! My Art 1 students could create anything on their masks as long as they had all the components, but I made Art 2 students have a theme. We ended our maskmaking by eating a King Cake:) Yummy!

Welcome to the Leachland Blog!

I hate that this idea just now came to me, but I came up with the idea to start blogging projects for students, parents, and extended family and friends of students to see what we are doing in Art. There are so many things that they do that they want to share, and I know how interested families are to see what there kids are doing:) So, I've decided to share the excitement of my classroom with you, sharing the creativity and successes of my students, your children, with you...because I hate to be stingy and keep it all to myself:) I'll post as we finish projects in each class. I hope you will enjoy and stay tuned:)
